Technician II
Position Summary
Assist the principal investigator in the daily laboratory operations and efforts, and in achieving the research objectives of multiple research projects in food safety and water quality.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Laboratory work - water and food sample processing, daily laboratory operation, lab management, and microbiology/molecular biology research
- Field work - water and food sampling
- Supervising - training and supervising undergraduate student workers and graduate students
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of microbiology and basic molecular biology
- Understanding of various types of polymerase chain reaction assay
- Knowledge of DNA recombination in bacteria
- Preferred: understanding of basic bioinformatics
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in microbiology or related field
- Experience in polymerase chain reaction assay
- Experience in molecular biology is preferred
- Research experience in food safety of fresh produce is preferred
