State Extension Specialist, 4-H Positive Youth Development

Position Summary

This position will design compelling and impactful research-based educational programming that meets the assessed needs of low-income, limited resource audiences who are underserved and unserved.

This dynamic, innovative individual will plan, administer, and evaluate educational programs, develop curricula, and provide training in the area of 4-H positive youth development.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Provide research-based information connecting theory to practice and disseminating that information to staff and other stakeholders.
  • Deliver high-impact, innovative programs built on the 4-H Positive Youth Development Thrive model, targeting low income, ethnically diverse, underserved audiences from marginalized communities in informal group settings.
  • Develop and conduct in-service training for all youth development educators and specialists. Inform state-wide programming for youth in other program areas.
  • Evaluate all youth development programs to ensure they incorporate the tenets of the 4-H Positive Youth Development Thrive model.
  • Create and implement a 4-H volunteer program and provide in-service training for volunteers.
  • Secure extramural funding, including grant proposals, and identify private and public funding sources.
  • Produce and disseminate educational resource materials and publications.
  • Form and cultivate partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies and other educational entities to optimize these relationships.
  • Comply with all Extension federal, state, and university reporting requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Documented success securing extramural funds and managing budgets.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function within a diverse team of faculty, students, and stakeholders.
  • Effective and innovative teaching strategies that engage target audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research into educational programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent, applied research with targeted audience.
  • Computer proficiency to include MS Office.
  • Ability to integrate new and emerging technology into educational strategies.
  • Ability to design and train individuals on the development and use of logic models as well as how to write robust measurable impacts.
  • Ability to develop and conduct educational sessions via distance learning and on virtual platforms.
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand Spanish.

Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. or earned doctorate in the area of education, early childhood/adolescent education, extension education, human development, or a closely related field is required.
  • Three years experience addressing the needs of and working with low-income, ethnically diverse, underserved audiences from marginalized communities in informal settings is required.
  • Experience designing, conducting, and evaluating innovative educational programs is required.
  • Portfolio of publications, including those written for the target audience is required.
  • Demonstrated scholarship in Extension is preferred.
