Small Farm Profitability- Grant Funded/Temporary Post Doc Position

Position Summary

This position is one year appointment and aims to strengths the agribusiness approach of the Beginning farmers and ranchers as well as the sustainable agriculture program at LUCE. Knowledge and skills of the doctoral fellow are needed to help farmers and ranchers to strength their production plans required as part of the Community Capacity Agribusiness Plan to Operate (CCAPO) and helping them to enter a Sustainable Entrepreneurial Agricultural model proposed to the NCRSARE sponsor.


Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  1. Working with supervisor to plan, implement, deliver, and evaluate program activities,

and impact.

  1. The postdoctoral professional will work closely with supervisor to assist the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development program (BFRDP) in developing and implementing production plans based an organic and agroecological
  2. Securing extramural funds through grants, donations, and other
  3. Developing and compiling data, helping in preparing reports and disseminating
  4. Helping in developing teaching materials to include guide sheets, fact sheets and

articles, assisting all the sub-programs at the AEMP

  1. Assisting stakeholders request of educational training in crops and livestock production systems, and
  2. Facilitating the AEMP field days and workshops Helping in the outreach of disadvantaged farmers and ranchers

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  1. Specialization in Ecological food and farming systems
  2. Horticulture and specialty crops knowledge, and ability to train and apply sustainable intensification
  3. Three years of experience in training farmers and ranchers / Experience as a research assistant and extension
  4. Data management skills and knowledge on SAS, Microsoft office
  5. Fluent English communication (verbal, written and read)
  6. Ability to drive long distances and facilitate occasionally events on

Education and Experience

* Doctoral degree


Physical Requirements

  • Light sedentary office
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
