Sergeant

PURPOSE


Supervise the Law Enforcement and Security activities of the Lincoln University Police Department.
Provide protection to life and property within the university community.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Enforces all applicable state and federal laws and Lincoln University rules and regulations.
  • Provide protection and safety to all members of the University community through comprehensive crime
    prevention, fire safety, and hazardous materials safety.
  • Supervise all personnel within the patrol division, communications, and security.
  • Prepare and review police reports, maintain logs and department records.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review work of subordinates. Assist with patrol activities, including traffic and field work. Lead investigator for all criminal investigations. Proactive crime prevention, community relations, and related service activities. Review reports, required forms, warrant applications, probable cause statements, records, and any related documents prepared by subordinates. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 3-years experience in security, law enforcement, or other related fields in a supervisory capacity (Preferred)

Must have completed a First-Line Supervision course and/or Field Training Officer Course (Required). Must have completed a First-Line Supervision course and/or Field Training Officer Course (Required) Must possess a Missouri POST Certification upon date of hire (Required).

Must Possess a minimum of 70 college credit hours in criminal justice or related field (Preferred)


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics


  1. Required: Principles and techniques of supervision.
  2. Knowledge of department policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  3. Knowledge of department databases, software, and other technologies utilized by the department.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with superiors, peers and subordinates.
  5. Guide and counsel subordinates on problems that affects their job performance.
  6. Communicate effectively in oral, written and electronic forms.
