Research Technician I - Hydroponics

Position Summary

The Research Technician I will provide technical support to the Lincoln University Hydroponic Research Program by executing horticulture research involving hydroponic crop production in a protected agriculture facility (greenhouse).

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Execute hydroponic experiments.
• Monitor experiments frequently for disease, infection, and insect infestation, and maintain recordkeeping.
• Maintain hydroponic greenhouse.
• Recordkeeping of environmental data generated by the installed weather station.
• Manage hydroponic lab workspace, equipment, supplies, and chemicals.
• Supervise student workers and casual employees and train them to use research equipment and instruments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Competency with MS-Excel spreadsheets and word processing.
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge and experience related to plant sciences.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• Pesticide application training & license.

Education and Experience

• Master's or bachelor's degree in Horticulture or Agronomy is required.
• Research experience with horticultural crops is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Light sedentary office work, normal physical mobility needed.
• Ability to sit and stand for an extended period of time.
• Ability to lift as much as 50 lbs. of potting soil or fertilizer.
