Research Technician I - Hydroponics
Position Summary
The Research Technician I will provide technical support to the Lincoln University Hydroponic Research Program by executing horticulture research involving hydroponic crop production in a protected agriculture facility (greenhouse).
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Execute hydroponic experiments.
- Monitor experiments frequently for disease, infection, and insect infestation, and maintain recordkeeping.
- Maintain hydroponic greenhouse.
- Recordkeeping of environmental data generated by the installed weather station.
- Manage hydroponic lab workspace, equipment, supplies, and chemicals.
- Supervise student workers and casual employees and train them to use research equipment and instruments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Competency with MS-Excel spreadsheets and word processing.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge and experience related to plant sciences.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Pesticide application training & license.
Education and Experience
- Master's or bachelor's degree in Horticulture or Agronomy is required.
- Research experience with horticultural crops is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Light sedentary office work, normal physical mobility needed.
- Ability to sit and stand for an extended period of time.
- Ability to lift as much as 50 lbs. of potting soil or fertilizer.
