Research Lab Manager

Position Summary

The laboratory manager will provide analytical support, maintain instruments and equipment, and manage the daily operations of research laboratories in the Cooperative Research Unit of College of Agriculture, Environmental and Human Sciences at Lincoln University of Missouri.

This position is a full-time, fringe benefit eligible position with responsibility of 60% lab management and 40% service.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of research laboratories.
• Maintain all major instruments and equipment in working condition.
• Provide analytical supports to faculties, staff, and students.
• Train students, faculty, and staff for the operations of all major instruments.
• Keep and maintain laboratory equipment, chemical and supply inventory,
• Oversee laboratory safety and regulatory compliance.
• Schedule instrument use.
• Develop standard operation protocols of major instruments.
• Contact instrumental companies of for repair or maintenance service.
• Assist in class teaching involving analytical instruments when needed.
• Write reports and technical documents to supervise as requested.
• Supervise student and casual workers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Good knowledge in chemistry and familiar with major analytical instruments and equipment, and operations such as ICP-MS, GS-MS, LC-MS, IC, XRD, XRF, etc.
• Experience with laboratory operation and project management.
• An ability to multitask and perform under deadlines.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good computer skills, including MS Office.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Education and Experience

• BS degree in chemistry or another relevant field, is required.
• Master's degree or above, is preferred.
