Research Associate

Position Summary

The Research Associate will help the principle investigator in the daily operation and effort, in seeking funding supports from both internal and external sources, and in achieving the research objectives of multiple research projects in food safety and water quality.

The position is renewable annually if warranted by ongoing needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Laboratory daily operation and management.
• Training of undergraduate and graduate students.
• Water and food sample processing.
• Data analysis.
• Publication of scientific findings.
• Other university responsibility, including response to the needs to stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and skills of microbial source tracking.
• Knowledge and skills or microbial food safety.
• Knowledge and skills of molecular biology.
• Ability to perform research independently.
• Ability to develop a research proposal and grant application.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Education and Experience

• Master's degree is required, Ph.D. is preferred.
• Experience in food and/or water microbiology is required.
• Experience in molecular biology is preferred.
• Experience in bioinformatics is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
• Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 25 lbs.
• Normal physical ability, agility, strength, dexterity, coordination, and endurance.
