Research Assistant

Position Summary

Assist in designing and conducting soil- and plant-related laboratory, field, and/or greenhouse experiments.

This position is renewed annually based on funding availability and job performance.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Operating the Soils laboratory, supervision for hourly employees, operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as Infrared Gas Analyzer and EPOCH Spectrophotometer and associated lab computers
• Assist and coordinate the work of graduate students
• Assist in field days, workshops, oral and poster presentations.
• In-state travel for research and outreach programs
• Assist in publication of research

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Written and oral communication skills
• Strong competency with Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, word processing
• Ability and desire to conduct greenhouse and fieldwork
• Must be able to tolerate outdoor working conditions

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or above in natural resource management, agribusiness, environmental science or related field
• Experience in laboratory analysis of soil, plant, water, and/or air samples
• Experience working with greenhouse and field experiments
• Must have a valid driver's license

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
