Research Analyst I

Position Summary

The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment is seeking a Research Analyst I to assist the Director with various functions of the OIRA office which include but are not limited to querying databases to extract data, cross-checking and cleaning data as needed, manipulating and analyzing data to complete reports, completion of publisher surveys, responding to ad-hoc requests for information, coordinating ad administering local, state, and national tests, collecting and organizing data, reports and other documentation to support the University's accreditation process, updating of the OIRA website and creating dashboards and visualizations to publish on the website.

Assist the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment in the planning, administering and evaluating of institutional research activities and assessment processes to support the University's mission.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

30% - Query database to extract data, cross-check and cleanse data as needed, manipulate and analyze data to complete internal and external reports and create visualizations

25% - Completes surveys from various publishers seeking information about the University and assists in the completion of federal and state reports.

20% - Assists with the coordination and administration of local and national tests.

10% - Assists in the collection and organization of data, reports and other documentation to support the University personnel in the design of projects and assessment activities.

5% - Assists in the collection of survey data, analysis of data, and reporting of survey results.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves on University committees as assigned.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities.
  • Completes requisitions and work orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Understanding of methods/techniques of data extraction, analysis, and reporting. Ability to pay attention to detail and good organization skills are required. Must be able to routinely document project work and to effectively manage multiple, simultaneous assignments. Must be able to work well under strict deadlines. MicroSoft Office proficiency, with intermediate-advanced Excel in required. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and administrators and ability to communicate effectively is required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the social sciences, statistics, business, computer science or other relevant field and three years fo related work experience, preferably in a higher education setting. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved may be considered. Experience working with large dat sets, data extraction, analysis and reporting is required; experience with validating and checking accuracy of data is also required. Experience administering standardized test is preferred but not required. Ability to pay attention to detail and strong organizational skills are required and candidate must be proficient in the use of Excel. Familiarity with Tableau is preferred but not required.

Some public contact is required, specifically when scheduling and administering tests.


Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Normal physical mobility, which includes movement form place to place to place on the job taking distance and speed into account.
  • Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
  • Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools.
  • Normal dexterity of hands and fingers.
  • Normal coordination, including eye-hand, hand-foot.
  • Normal endurance.

Working Conditions and Environment

Normal 40 hours work week (8am-5pm during regular class sessions; 7:30am-6pm during summer work hours.).

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which requires normal safety precautions of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms.

Overtime work may be required on occasions, dependent on workload and work objectives.
