Project Assistant - Remote
Purpose:
This position requires a highly motivated and creative individual capable of working in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary natural resources research lab. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the PI (Principle Investigator) in grant management, reporting, and organizing research projects.
Essential Job Functions:
This is a remote position with occasional visits to LU campus for project meetings/discussions or other related business. Duties include project planning, training, and supporting new students and staff, and interacting with community members during programming.
Duties include but are not limited.
- Plan, manage, and help conduct project activities for the Forestry and Natural Resources Management Laboratory, including USDA, NASA, and NRCS-funded proposals.
- Help write and edit grant proposals, project budgets, and reports to external funding agencies.
- Keep detailed and orderly notes on all project work.
- Help prepare and publish peer-reviewed research articles.
- Engage with community members, students, farmers, and fellow researchers to build new working relationships.
- Collaborate with fellow LU employees, outside researchers, and community stakeholders to achieve research objectives.
- Communicate research findings at prominent conferences throughout the United States.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
- Good computer skills, including solid competency with excel spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentation, word processing, etc.
- Basic knowledge of agriculture and the ability and desire to enhance knowledge in the discipline.
- Assistance with outreach efforts such as field days and workshops are expected.
- In-state travel for research and outreach programs may be required.
- Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
- Bachelor's degree or above in agriculture, natural science, or closely related field.
- Experience in reporting, writing, and office management is highly desired.
- Candidates with experience in natural science research will be preferred.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods of working remotely in an office environment.
