Position Summary
The Program Educator Assistant will be part of the Specialty Crops team providing education and outreach, as well as assist with the Farmers Market.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
In the role of Lincoln University Cooperative Extension Program Educator Assistant, the Specialty Crop Program Educator Assistant will be in charge of the weekly Farmer's Market in Jefferson City at Lincoln University. The Spring/Summer/Fall Market is held outdoors every Saturday for 7 months of the year. The hours of operation are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., with set up and break down from 7:30 to 12:30. The Winter Market is held indoors every other week, starting in November (depending on the weather), and has slightly reduced hours.
• The Program Educator Assistant will work directly with vendors to accommodate their needs and to ensure compliance with state and local regulations, as well as foster a friendly and open environment for customers.
• This position will manage vendor applications, as well as create, execute and report results of Farmer's Market budget. The Program Educator Assistant will collect fees, assign vendor spaces and maintain sanitary working spaces at the farmer's market.
• The Program Educator Assistant will determine the eligibility of those wanting to sell at the market based on rules established by the market, the university, and local and state agencies like the department of health.
• The Program Educator Assistant will promote the Farmer's Market through engagement activities, such as the generation of promotional materials. Promotions may include, but are not limited banners, signage, social media content, other communication platforms (radio spots, coverage in local newspaper) and may include special events.
• The Program Educator Assistant will assist with maintaining the FINCA, the Outdoor Native Plant Laboratory and farm plots through planting, mowing, weeding and watering.
• The Program Educator Assistant will work with the specialty crops team to deliver programs, virtual classes and workshops, which includes field days and guided tours on campus, and will produce educational material such as fact sheets and guide sheets.
• The Program Educator Assistant will work with and coordinate volunteers and student workers as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must possess excellent communications and social skills.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people is necessary. Experience working with Specialty crops.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work for prolonged periods outdoors.
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
