Professor of Education/Para to Pro Coordinator

PURPOSE:

Full-time, tenure track position in the School of Education. Position requires teaching and advising undergraduate and graduate students, overseeing the Para to Pro program, including advising, scheduling, recruitment of both students and instructors, maintain relationships with partner schools, and observations of students, scholarship in the field of education, service at the School, College and University level, and other duties as assigned. Rank and salary are determined by experience and qualifications. Possible ranks are Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Preparing and teaching a 6-hour load per semester of assigned undergraduate and graduate general K-12 education courses, both in-seat and online.
  • Advise Para to Pro students with class schedules, schedule courses, transcript evaluations, recruit students to the program, oversee adjunct instructors, build and maintain relationships with partner schools throughout the state.
  • Oversee student-teachers and practicum students. Maintain records of grades and attendance.
  • Hold 10 hours of office hours per week.
  • Active scholarship, research, publications, and/or grant applications in the field of Education.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Attend university events and ceremonies such as commencement.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively participate in ongoing accreditation efforts at both state and national level.
  • Para to Pro Coordinator duties may occur during summer months.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Required:

  1. A Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in a field of Education, or the completion of a doctorate within one year (ABD). Experience with teaching Elementary or Special Education in the Missouri K-12 school systems preferred.

Preferred:

  1. In addition to the required education, experience with teaching in Higher Education.
  2. Experience with Canvas as an LMS and educational software.
  3. Knowledge of required state exams.
  4. The preferred candidate will be able to align curriculum to state teaching standards and effectively communicate verbally and in writing to students, faculty, and the public.
  5. They will establish and maintain professional working relationships with K-12 school districts.
  6. They will be able to work well with a diverse group of students from various backgrounds, faculty, and staff.
  7. The preferred candidate will have a knowledge and understanding of current issues and trends in K-12 education.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Required:

  1. A Missouri teaching certificate in Elementary Education and/or areas of K-12 education (or the ability to obtain Missouri certification).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The ability to physically teach in a classroom setting, move between offices and buildings.
  • Ability to drive to partner schools throughout the state.
  • Visits to student teachers and practicum students' schools may fall outside of usual office hours.
