Prevention Coordinator

Position Summary

Utilizing the Collective Impact Model, this position will provide stability, networking, and an overall vision for implementation for ENGAGE, an innovative multi-level violence prevention strategy in development and funded by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The ENGAGE strategy includes

1. a bystander engagement program to reduce harm on campus related to alcohol use, drug use, violence, acts of bias and discrimination, and suicide/mental health.

2. an online training for first year students.

3. community level violence prevention elements.


Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with those in violence prevention, mental health, substance abuse prevention, and inclusion, diversity, and equity, to implement this allyship model.
  • Builds a safe, connected, and inclusive campus by focusing on citizenship, building community connections, and the concept of caring for others.
  • Builds long-term, ongoing relationships with students and student groups, faculty, and staff to engage them in inclusive, intersectional, and effective power-based personal violence prevention throughout their time on campus, focusing especially on those most at risk for interpersonal violence.
  • Develops expertise in the new program ad tailor outreach and education to the campus community by providing presentations to classrooms, student organization meetings, and faculty/staff meetings, and by leading in-depth training for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develops baseline knowledge in the four areas addressed by the new program; alcohol and drug misuse, interpersonal violence, bias, and mental health/suicidality.
  • Leads the campus implementation team, coordinate planning meetings, provide ongoing development for the team members, and complete other necessary administrative work to support the implementation of the program; serve as a member of Campus Community Health staff.
  • Serves as a member of the campus Partners in Prevention Coalition.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to confidently present information to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Computer skills and comfort with varying software programs and platforms (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom).
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to receive and implement constructive criticism to improve performance.
  • Ability to interact with individuals from all organizational levels and with diverse populations and demonstrate good human relations/interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive self-starter with a proven history of taking initiative and moving projects forward as part of the team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Communication, Management, Marketing, Public Relations, Psychology, Social Work, or other related field from accredited university preferred.
  • One year of presentation experience required.
  • Content matter expertise in at least one of the following areas: alcohol and drug misuse, interpersonal violence, bias, mental health/suicidality preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
