Postdoctoral Researcher

Purpose:

Will assist to fulfill the objectives of the recently founded 1890 Capacity Building Grant.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Training of undergraduates and graduate students.
  • Design and implement studies to achieve the goals of the project.
  • Present the scientific findings the academia and the industry.
  • Educate the public and stakeholders.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help the principal investigator (PI) in the daily operation and effort, in seeking funding support from both internal and extramural sources.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Microbiology or a related area is required.
  • Experience in water microbiology is required.
  • Experience in plant pathology is a plus.
  • Experience in molecular biology/bioinformatics is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

  • knowledge and skills in microbial source tracking.
  • Knowledge and skills in molecular biology.
  • Ability to perform research independently.
  • Ability to develop a research proposal and grant application.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Missouri state driver license

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up 25 pounds.
  • Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job taking distance and speed into account.
  • Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
  • Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools.
  • Normal dexterity of hands and fingers.
  • Normal coordination, including eye-hand, hand-foot.
  • Normal endurance.

This is a 12-month fixed term position, effective from the date of employment. Renewal on an annual basis is contingent upon job performance and funding availability.
