Postdoctoral Research Associate
Position Summary
Provide research support and extension programming for USDA-NIFA Organic Transition (ORG) funded project entitled "Novel Cover Cropping and Crop Rotation Strategies for Enhanced Soil Health, Yield, and Profitability of Organic Vegetable Systems".
This is a 12-month appointment and annually renewed for up the three years, based on job performance.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of the ORG research project - including designing, planning and conducting studies and trials, collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, and writing technical reports
- Extension outreach, including organizing field days, and participating in local and regional grower meetings
- Assist with project research and extension activities related to the ORG project
- Supervising technical staff and undergraduate student workers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Effective project management skills
- Experience with computer statistical programs, such as SAS and R
- Experience working with the instruments and equipment used in a land-grant university research laboratory
- Preferred: website development experience
Education and Experience
- Ph.D. in agronomy, soil science, horticulture or closely related discipline appropriate to the position is required
- Experience conducting field studies focused on cover cropping and horticulture or small acreage crops is preferred
- Effective communication skills
- Experience developing and delivering scientific presentations is preferred
