Postdoctoral Fellow - Remote Sensing and GIS

Position Summary

This position will conduct research related to remote sensing, geospatial data management, and spatially explicit ecological modeling.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Utilize high-resolution remote sensing imagery acquired by National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP), Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) data, and field observation to identify spatial patters of oak mortality in the Missouri Ozark Highlands ecoregion.
• Develop ecological models to define spatial associations between oak decline and biotic/abiotic factors.
• Generate predictive models related to climate change and environmental perturbations.
• Supervise, mentor, and train graduate and undergraduate students in research, lab, and field work protocols.
• Contribute to preparing scientific publications, research presentations, and develop research proposals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated expertise in geospatial data mining and machine learning applications related to agriculture or forestry.
• Demonstrated expertise in numerical computing languages, open source (Python, R) coding.
• Strong understanding of statistical analyses.
• Ability to work in hot and cold weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.

Education and Experience

• Doctoral degree in earth system science, physical geography, environmental science, or other relevant fields. *Note: This degree must have been received within the last five years.
• Experience in remote sensing, and image processing to analyze land cover, vegetation, and environmental parameters, and applying these techniques to process government data sets.
