Plumber

PURPOSE:
The University plumber is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems across campus facilities. This includes addressing issues related to water supply, drainage, heating systems, and plumbing fixtures. The plumber ensures that all plumbing systems function efficiently and in compliance with safety codes and university standards. They will respond to emergency plumbing problems, perform preventative maintenance, and assist with plumbing projects for building renovations or upgrades.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and water heating systems across university buildings.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve plumbing issues such as leaks, clogs, low water pressure, and drainage problems.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on plumbing systems to prevent future issues.
  • Ensure that all plumbing work complies with local building codes, safety standards, and university policies.
  • Assist with plumbing-related tasks for campus events, new construction, or facility renovations.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts used for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing issues quickly to minimize disruption to campus activities.
  • Work closely with other facilities staff to coordinate plumbing services and resolve building-related issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  2. Proven experience as a plumber, with expertise in both commercial and residential plumbing systems.

Certifications, Licenses, Registration:

  1. Valid plumbing license or certification as required by local regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

  • Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, installation techniques, and safety practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex plumbing issues efficiently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting and carrying objects of varying weights, standing for extended periods, walking frequently, climbing ladders, bending and stooping, reaching overhead, pushing or pulling heavy items, kneeling, crouching, manual dexterity for handling small objects, and good vision and hearing.
  • Work may occur in confined spaces (e.g., crawl spaces) as well as in various weather conditions.
