Plant Science Teaching Faculty

Position Summary:

Lincoln University of Missouri invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Plant Science to teach Plant Science courses. This is a 9-month, tenure-track, full benefit-eligible faculty position with responsibilities of 100% teaching. Optional 3-month research opportunities available to increase salary during summer months. The successful candidate may have credentials for appointment as Associate or Assistant Professor.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Serve as an academic advisor for plant science majors.
  • Develop an academic program and curriculum for plant science students.
  • Initiate and participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Mentor students through student clubs and student research projects.
  • Write grant proposals for extramural funding.
  • Collaborate with other faculty, farm employees, extension educators, producers, and industry partners to conduct relevant research in your area of expertise.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Academic Department Chair or College Dean.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated abilities to develop an academic program, provide innovative ideas, and an attractive curriculum for agriculture majors.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to work in a team-oriented environment with a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty.

Education and Experience:

  • Earned doctorate in Plant Science, Crop Science, Soil Science, Agriculture Science, Environmental Science, or closely related field is required.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising student groups is preferred.

Candidates that have the credentials for appointment to Academic Department Chair will be considered for this role (if unfilled at the time of hire). If chosen, the individual will provide leadership in planning and supervising programs relevant to the Department of Agriculture's mission, managing budgetary and financial matters, and generating extra-mural support.
