Nursing Simulation Coordinator

Position Summary


This non-tenure position will be filled to maintain the level of Preparation for BSN students
as they prepare to care for patients in the community. The Nursing Simulation Instructor
will collaborate with the nursing faculty in creating an active learner centered environment.
The Nursing Simulation Instructor reports directly to the Dean/Dept. Head of the School of
Nursing.


Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty in preparation and creation of learning materials to meet course objectives as determined by course instructors.
  • Collaborate with Dean/Dept.Head/BSN Coordinator with inventory and ordering of lab supplies.
  • Prepare simulators prior to simulation, including proper functioning of
    computers, appropriate scenarios and props, moulage of mannequins, and set up of classroom computer for live feed.
  • Set up simulation and practice labs for simulation; check off activities as requested by faculty.
  • Clean and maintain labs and mannequins following learning activities.
  • Operate simulators during simulation sessions. Be present for all simulations and monitoring of students during simulations.
  • Assist students and faculty with simulation equipment; assist with orientation of equipment for
    students and faculty members.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  • Attends nursing pinning and commencement ceremony.
  • Participates in disseminating information about the School of Nursing.
  • Facilitate learning and remediation of skills for students in the skills lab.
  • Track and document student and faculty use of labs, and update student practice check-in log.
  • Serves as a role model for students by using effective communication, utilizing team concepts, and professional appearance for all simulations and tours.
  • Lead tours and demonstrate simulation equipment to visitors.
  • Updates personal knowledge related to simulation and technology by reading of professional journals and attending conferences.
  • Participate in lab committee meetings and other committee duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain professional development activities.
  • Maintain positive relationships within the University and in the larger community.
  • Maintain expertise in field of study and teaching pedagogy by attending seminars,
    workshops and classes for self-improvement and/or professional enhancement.
  • Makes recommendations regarding equipment, software purchases, and equipment maintenance.
  • Participates in the School of Nursing budget planning process
  • Collaborates with colleagues in grant writing/fundraising.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Knowledge of simulation technology and computer proficiency in PC software.
Knowledge of principles and methods of adult education.
Strong organizational and creative problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and into-personal skills.
Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments & sensitive issues.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends on occasion.


Education and Experience


Master's degree in Nursing
Current Missouri RN license in good standing
Have at least two years of clinical nursing practice.
Previous simulation experience is preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Highly organized, detailed-oriented with the ability to multi-task.


Physical Requirements


1. Occasional heavy lifting is required.
2. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
3. Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
4. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
5. Able to actively demonstrate and participate in the skills laboratory and clinical without
physical limitations.
