Human Resources Director

Position Summary

The Human Resources Director is the chief human resources officer of the University system - serving as an advocate regarding benefits, policies, and practices that would have a positive impact on employees. The position also serves as an advisor and strategic partner to university administration.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in all aspects of Human Resources, direct the HR team in short- and long-term projects, and daily work.
  • Serve on the University's Collective Bargaining Team as well as other committees as assigned.
  • Create and implement necessary HR policies and procedures.
  • Provide training on all aspects of HR, including handbooks, effective leadership, and university policies.
  • Promote effective employee relations with faculty and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, such as ADA, FMLA, and the ACA.
  • Supervise the professional and administrative support employees within the Human Resources Department.
  • Responsible for departmental budget.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Working knowledge of Office 360.
  • Excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality or sensitive data.
  • Self-starting and able to work consistently without direct supervision.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field is preferred.
  • 3 years of experience with employee relations, investigations, ADA/FMLA, compensation, benefits administration, recruitment and retention, diversity, labor relations, and training is required.
  • Experience in Human Resources with a higher education organization is preferred.
  • PHR or SHRM certification is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Normal physical mobility, agility, strength, coordination, and endurance.
