Greenhouse Manager

Position Summary

Performs daily operation and management of research greenhouses, growth chambers and

high tunnels for plant-based research and specialty plant research. Provides technical

support and resources to researchers for greenhouse, growth chamber and high tunnel

research needs (e.g., experiment setup, plant care, insect and disease control, irrigation,

pesticide, and fertilizer use, etc.).


Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Maintains equipment, environmental control, inventory, and supplies for the greenhouses, growth chambers, and high tunnels.
  • Participates in workshop and outreach activities relevant to the operation of the greenhouses, growth chambers, and high tunnels.
  • Establishes standard protocols and policies for the utilization, maintenance and management of greenhouses, growth chambers, and high tunnels.
  • Ensures compliance with health, safety and legal requirements in the greenhouses, groMh chambers, and high tunnels.
  • Supervises/trains undergraduate students and greenhouse employees.
  • Works with Lincoln University's research farm employees, facility managers, extension educators, producers, and Industry partners as
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Writing and communication skills.
  • Computer, research, and analytical skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a team-oriented environment with a diverse group of faculty and students.
  • Driver's license.
  • Ability to operate power and hand tools.
  • Ability to operate a truck/trailer and a walk-behind tractor and implements.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in plant science, biology, agronomy, or closely related field from an accredited institution required.
  • Two years of experience managing/operating the greenhouses, growth chambers and high tunnels required.
  • Two years' experience of greenhouse research, operations and SOP are preferred.
  • Project management skills are preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing at a table and working with plants.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
