Farm Outreach Worker - Central

Purpose:

To assist the Innovative Small Farmers' Outreach Program (ISFOP), make farm visits, and promote assistance to small family farms in the Central Region.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct farm visits and provide research-based education information and training.
  • Develop and disseminate farm and farming-related information.
  • Organize and coordinate conferences, meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Assist in organizing/conducting workshops with LUCE State Specialists to deliver programs.
  • Encourage and assist farmers in promoting LUCE and its programs.
  • Develop collegial relationships with other service providers in their work area.
  • Submit all required reports promptly.
  • Update clients' information after every farm visit.
  • Respond to ISFOP Director's request for information.
  • Help promote USDA programs, inform, and assist small farmers to access grant opportunities.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The ISFOP director may assign additional responsibilities from time to time.

Qualifications:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of farming experience.

Desired: Interest and experience in urban agriculture/community gardening will be a plus, ability to speak and understand Spanish. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

  1. Experience working with diverse audiences.
  2. Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to work well on teams.
  4. Attend in-service education, training, and conferences.
  5. Keep farmers informed of the latest innovations in agriculture and grant opportunities.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Physical Demands:

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of standing or working in adverse weather.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

This is a 12-month fixed-term position, effective from the date of employment. Renewal on an annual basis is contingent upon job performance and funding availability.
