Farm Assistant

Position Summary

The Farm Assistant will help industrial hemp related activities in the field, high tunnel, and greenhouse facilities.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Learn new methods of farming and sharing existing knowledge of farming.
• Work on the industrial hemp in the field, greenhouse, and high tunnel.
• Operates farm machinery and tools - including tractor, TMR wagon, skid steer, front-end loader, mower, etc.
• Clean equipment and work areas.
• Learn to prepare each farm area for planting.
• Plant and maintain industrial hemp.
• Take stewardship of the land, plants, and environment by making a commitment to the sustainability and well-being of the project and the people involved.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge about farming and the importance of agriculture.
• Self-starter.
• Follow directions, comply with best management practices.
• Operating farm equipment and tools.
• Hand water crops.
• Troubleshooting and communication skills.

Education and Experience

• Experience in crop or vegetable planting.
• High school diploma, or equivalent and two years of relevant experience required.
• Relevant college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute experience.

Physical Requirements

• Typical physical demands of farm labor - walking, standing, reaching, stooping, squatting, etc.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Working indoors and outdoors in cold, hot, or wet conditions on uneven surfaces.
