Farm Assistant II - Carver Farm

Purpose:

To provide support to the farm staff, researchers, and extension personnel for tasks and activities which take place at the University Farm. Also responsible for maintenance of farm facilities including mowing, and maintenance of grounds at the University Farms.

Essential Job Functions:

• Communicate with the Farm Superintendent, Farm Managers, Assistant Farm Managers, Researchers, University Extension personnel, Technicians, Casual employees, and student workers regarding farm programs, events, and activities.
• Mowing, weed eating, and maintenance of the grounds at the University Farms.
• Clean and coordinate set up of facilities for functions scheduled in the farm facilities.
• Operate farm equipment and assist farm staff, researchers, and extension personnel with preparation of research and demonstration plots.
• Assist farm staff and researchers with handling of livestock at the University Farms.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED required
• Must have current driver's license
• Chauffer's license preferred but not required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

1. General knowledge of Agriculture
2. Ability to operate farm equipment, mowers, and weed eaters
3. Good communication skills
4. Ability to work outside for extended periods of time in inclement weather.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift up to 75lbs.
• Ability to work outside in extreme environmental conditions
• This position requires typical physical demands for farm labor such as walking, standing, reaching, stooping, and squatting.

This is a 12-month fixed term position, effective from the date of employment. Renewal on an annual basis is contingent upon job performance and funding availability.
