Facilities Engineer

Position Summary

The Facilities Engineer is responsible for representing the University's interests regarding all new construction projects, renovation work, extensive maintenance, preventative maintenance, and related design work, as well as coordinating with both internal and external concerns regarding these projects, including financial recordkeeping and budgetary matters and policies.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Performs varied technical and detailed work related to remodeling, design, construction, maintenance, and preventative maintenance of new and existing facilities and equipment.
  • Assist in the selection of outside consultants for construction and renovation work.
  • Work with consultants during program development, design development, schematics, technical specifications and work drawing, bidding documents, bidding process and review, and project management.
  • Perform inspections of construction projects and makes decisions regarding problem areas.
  • Conduct pre-construction conferences, walk-throughs, bid-openings, scheduling and coordinating examinations and utility access requirements for construction projects.
  • Serve as the contact person with outside consultants, contractors, and State, Federal, and local authorities, including all ADA related incidents.
  • Perform duties related to land acquisition and disbursement and maintain records of University-owned real property.
  • Assist with all activities related to University property.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of construction, building engineering, architecture, engineering, mechanical engineering, or civil engineering.
  • Technical problem solving and decision-making skills to offer timely and appropriate alternatives to unique situations.
  • Record keeping skills in relation to construction, renovation, and extensive maintenance activities - including budgets, purchase orders, pay requests, certified payrolls, and other related activities.
  • Ability to analyze project costs and prepare budgets.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to form interpersonal relationships with key stakeholders in other University departments and outside organizations.
  • Skilled at planning and coordinating infrastructure and equipment maintenance schedules and activities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is required.
  • Three years minimum experience in construction field is required.
