Extension Specialist, Field Operations

PURPOSE:
The Extension Specialist for Field Operations reports to the Associate Extension Administrator. This position will be expected to strengthen the relationships with regional partners, campus community partners, Lincoln University, and the national level organizations that support Extension. The Extension Specialist Field Operations will ensure that alignment between the Impact Centers, and that Lincoln University Cooperative Extension is functioning. The Extension Specialist for Field Operations will maintain ongoing responsibilities for regional operations for Lincoln University Cooperative Extension.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for oversight and timeliness of all reports required from the Area and Regional Coordinators.
  • The Extension Specialist will also be in close alignment with the Associate Extension Administrator in the oversight of Regional Extension Directors.
  • Ensure that all Extension employees have the environment and training necessary to be successful.
  • Work with the State Program Leaders to ensure that local staff and programs are relevant, needed and valued.
  • Ensure that all Impact Centers have strong and vibrant advisory councils, which help to advise regional staff on local needs, and advocate Extension's local and organizational value and impact to key stakeholders.
  • Develop Advisory leadership capacity including training advisors to become advocates.
  • Work closely with LUCE Extension Specialists to ensure that the organizational strategic plan aligns to state and local needs.
  • Along with the Associate Extension Administrator, and Area and Regional Directors, work closely with the University of Missouri Cooperative Extension's administration to ensure excellent relationships and that programs function well at the local and state levels.
  • Represent LUCE in meetings, task forces, and committees at the local, state, and national level as requested by the Associate Extension Administrator.
  • Serve on district, college, and university-wide committees, in other community leadership roles, and with professional organizations, and will build/maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position requires routine travel and overtime work as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Extension Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D./ Ed.D. In Agriculture Education, or related Agricultural fields, Extension Education, such as Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, Community Development, and Youth Development with at least 5-7 years of Extension experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with and through others.
  • Previous experience with supervising employees and providing leadership.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the land Grant System.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid MO driver's license or the ability to obtain within 60 days of start.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up-to 25 lbs.
