Extension Associate - Small Ruminant

Position Summary

The Extension Associate position assists the Small Ruminant State Specialist and Cooperative Extension Adminstrators to provide educational resources, programs and assistance to a wide variety of Extension educators and clientele.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Support the work of the Small Ruminant State Specialists.
  • Collaborate, develop, and disseminate information resulting from current small ruminant research findings.
  • Assist with developing, writing, and editing publications including articles, guide sheets, and fact sheets.
  • Organize, coordinate, and implement conferences, meetings, events, tours, workshops, seminars, and demonstrations under the direction of the State Specialists.
  • Prepare posters and presentations for meetings.
  • Participate in grant proposal writing and securing extra-mural funds and in-kind resources.
  • Develop and assist with summer programs such as AgDiscovery and participate in the Missouri State Fair.
  • May supervise student workers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a larger team.
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience writing grant proposals and securing extra-mural funds and in-kind donations.

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Animal Science or a closely related field is required.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the area of animal science (preferably small ruminants) is required.
  • Two years of experience organizing, implementing, and evaluating small ruminant workshops, seminar series, and conferences is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience working with limited resource small farmers and ranchers is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience working with ethnically diverse individuals is preferred.
