Engage Community Organizer

Position Summary


Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services contracted with Partners in Prevention in 2021 to create a multi-level violence prevention strategy for use by institutions of higher education within Missouri. It is meant to encourage a culture of care and a desire to engage and prevent potentially harmful situations. The project aims to be accessible and adaptable for each individual institution of higher education, framing bystander behavior within the context of community connection and a sense of belonging. Overall, the focus is on the following takeaways:


  • Why you should care/intervene (i.e., civic responsibility, bystander effect)
  • How you can show care/intervene
  • How to apply a variety of approaches
  • How your different identities might influence your ability/willingness to show care/intervene
  • What resources are available

Purpose of the Engage Community Organizer will be to oversee the day-to-day needs of the

Engage Program.


Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities


« Lead the planning, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of the Engage Program.

  • Develop and recruit an Engage "team" - to include Engage Champions, Engage Facilitators, and Engage Peer
  • Recruit individuals who are knowledgeable and capable of facilitating Engage Deeper Dive content (to include topics of (1) alcohol and other drug use, (2) acts of interpersonal violence, (3) acts of bias and discrimination, and (4) mental well-being and suicidality).
  • Ensure fidelity is being maintained throughout all aspects of the Engage
  • Maintain records associated with official implementation of the Engage Online Introductory Training, Engage Overview Training (for both students and faculty/staff), and Deeper Dive Trainings.
  • Maintain records associated with the assessment of applicable
  • Attend Engage Office Hours, Mid-day Meetups, and other Technical Assistance opportunities as requested.

* Other duties as needed as this program develops and expands in need and participation.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


* Ability to communicate and promote the Engage Program effectively.

* Strong understanding and passion for wellness education and prevention.

  • Baseline knowledge in the four main areas addressed in the Engage Program:
    • Alcohol and other drug use,
    • Acts of interpersonal violence,
    • Acts of bias and discrimination; and
    • Mental well-being and

« Leadership and interpersonal skills for engaging a broad group of stakeholders.

  • Communication skills specific to facilitating effective presentations/programs to a variety of constituents.
  • Marketing skills specific to creating and utilizing effective, evidence-based promotional materials and
  • Ability to quickly assess and problem-solve in complex situations through effective listening, consultation, data analysis, and critical thinking
  • Ability to maintain the privacy of what is shared during Engage Program(s).

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Health or Social Sciences or a related field is required.
  • At least two to four years of progressive experience in Health or Social Sciences or related
  • Five years' experience in Health or Social sciences Field is preferred.
