Dispatch Coordinator/Office Assistant

Purpose:

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled functions in support of the Dispatch Center. Supervises the full and part time dispatch operators and graduate assistant activities of the Lincoln University Police Department and the Lincoln University Police Academy. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled functions in support of the Dispatch Center; receives and dispatches emergency and non-emergency calls from the public for police, fire, and ambulance personnel, equipment, and services; provides lead direction and participates in the work of a dispatcher; and performs other duties as assigned. Proactive crime prevention, community relations, and related service activities. Review reports, required forms, warrant applications, probable cause statements, records, and any related documents prepared by subordinates.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs assigned lead operator duties, including monitoring work schedules and assignments for Communications and Records.
  • Schedules the work of dispatch personnel; trains, evaluates the work of new and existing dispatch personnel, and monitors the work of dispatch personnel.
  • Ensures work is performed according to standards and guidelines; provides input regarding employee performance.
  • Observes the performance of the Dispatchers.
  • Operates a variety of equipment associated with the job, including automated dispatch equipment, computer, radio and recording equipment, monitors equipment for correct functioning.
  • Monitor budgets and present requisitions for office purchases, training, and patrol equipment.
  • Maintain ticket operations system.
  • Input Datatel work orders, requisitions, and budgets for the law enforcement academy and the police department.
  • Computer payroll, comp time, sick leave, vacation, and emergency leave.
  • Routine office administration.
  • Serve as the daytime dispatcher.
  • Train dispatch for dispatch duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

  • The ability to learn over the phone first aid or CPR, maintain a professional, courteous, and polite demeanor, and perform any additional duties assigned by Lincoln University Police Department and Staff.
  • Be familiar with and carry out emergency evacuation procedures.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent (Required).
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience (Preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of Excel and Word (Preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

  • Able to pass state background check (Required).
  • Strong working knowledge of security operations and safety practices. (Preferred).
  • Excellent surveillance and observation skills. (Preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills. (Preferred).
  • Flexibility to work different shifts (Required).

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Dispatch supervisor training and First Line Supervision school (Preferred).

Physical Demands:

  1. Light sedentary office work.
  2. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  3. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
