Director of the Writing Center

Position Summary

The Writing Center Director serves students, faculty, and courses within the disciplines and across the curriculum at Lincoln University.

**The Director of the Writing Center must hold a faculty position at Lincoln University. This is a 9-month academic appointment and requires a 0.5 teaching load.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Teach a 0.5 load of classes in personal discipline.
• Develop a culture of writing at Lincoln University.
• Promote writing across the curriculum, and within disciplines.
• Provide assistance with teaching writing in the curriculum.
• Design and conduct workshops and faculty consultations on the teaching of writing.
• Work directly with the Coordinator of Mentoring & Tutoring to hire and train student tutors for English and writing.
• Supervise Writing Center support staff.

• Knowledge of best practices for effective teaching practices for writing.
• Demonstrated commitment, knowledge, and ability to effectively engage individuals from diverse educational disciplines.
• Skilled at organization and time management.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
• Proven skills as an effective educator at the university level.

Education and Experience

• Master's degree required; Ph.D. preferred - any discipline will be considered.
• Two years' experience working at an institution of higher education required; five years preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Light sedentary office work.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
