Director of the Security Sciences Institute
Purpose:
The Director of the Lincoln University Security Sciences Institute is responsible for management of all academic and administrative aspects of the program. The position is multifaceted with the individual expected to oversee the administrative and financial aspects of the Institute in addition to possessing the academic expertise to guide the promotion and development of existing and new curriculum. These efforts will be based upon the ability of the Director to substantively engage both internal and external partners and stakeholders to create a comprehensive platform for certification, education, and training of emergency responders. The position also requires the individual to have real world experience in the management of emergency operations and/or 911 call centers to oversee the use of university technologies and facilities dedicated to the support of local emergency response needs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Design and maintain high quality certificate and degree programs that meet required local, state, and federal certification/regulation requirements for emergency responders and associated support positions.
- Work closely with faculty and subject matter experts to provide high quality instruction within certificate and degree programs including maintenance of required certifications and training.
- Manage adjunct faculty and subject matter experts working within the Security Sciences Institute including provision of professional development opportunities.
- Lead development of events and programming in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage utilization of all Security Sciences Institute facilities including the Emergency Operations Training Center, obstacle course, classrooms, offices, and other areas as developed.
- Identify and develop opportunities for new programs, certificates, degrees, and partnership opportunities.
- Remain up to date on industry advancements in the academic and professional aspects of emergency services, operations, and management.
- Manage all administrative and financial aspects of Security Sciences Institute operations including provision of required internal and external reports and assessments.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support University reporting and assessment responsibilities through development and submission of area reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in emergency management, Public Administration, or public safety administration with a minimum of 5 years' experience in emergency operations.
- Experience developing and delivering emergency services training, certification, or education.
- Supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership in emergency management and/or higher education.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- Demonstrated commitment, knowledge, and ability to effectively engage individuals from diverse educational disciplines.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Familiarity with emergency management systems and associated certifications including FEMA, IAEM, and/or CEM standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Skills in organization and time management.
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with public and private emergency services and higher education leaders.
- Full knowledge of and experience with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or equivalent.
- Completion of a nationally recognized Emergency Management program (e.g. FEMA EMI Basic Academy).
Physical Demands:
- Light sedentary office work.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
