Position Summary

The Director of Student Financial Services will provide direction and leadership for the day-to-day operations, with a special emphasis on compliance with federal regulations, efficient use of technology, communications, and customer service. The Director is a key leader who brings fresh ideas and perspectives, possesses an ability to build consensus and institutionalize policies that are both practical and innovative while focusing on the University's commitment of enhancing student success.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, review, and document policies and procedures to ensure effective, efficient, and compliant administration of federal, state, and institutional funds.
  • Oversee all processes related to the application and disbursement of state and federal aid funds.
  • Oversee billing and collection functions and develop payment methods/options that provide customer flexibility, utilizes current banking technologies, and complies with external regulations.
  • Oversee a comprehensive communication plan for the department.
  • Mentor and develop team of direct reports and create professional development plans for staff with ongoing training opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with budgeting.
  • Working knowledge of current regulation applicable to financial aid and student accounts in higher education.
  • Experience in evaluation, implementation, and functional use of technology systems and products to meet department functions.
  • Strong organization skills, detail oriented and customer service focus.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diverse work environment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, or related field required.
  • Five or more years of progressive work experience, including two or more years in a supervisory role, in a Financial Aid or Student Accounts related setting is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
