Director of Accounting

Position Summary

Perform professional accounting and administrative work, assist in maintaining accounting functions and responsibilities, supervise various accounting functions including accounts payable. Exercise independent judgment and discretion in planning and carrying out duties or work procedures.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of accounting work in the development and maintenance of the university's financial and accounting system.
• Post award grant management
• Supervise various accounting personnel
• Comply with GAAP, as well as federal, state, and local regulations
• Compile financial reports for external users

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High aptitude of accounting guidelines and regulations
• Familiar with GASB
• Excellent written and oral communication
• Quantitative aptitude and the ability to analyze qualitative information
• Proficient with spreadsheets and software is required

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration is required
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in advanced accounting
• Higher education experience is preferred
• Experience with federal and state grants
• Experience or knowledge of Colleague is preferred

Physical Requirements

• Light sedentary office work
• Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer
• Ability to life up to 25 lbs.
