Dean of the College of Professional Studies

Position Summary:

The Dean of the College of Professional Studies has oversight of the Schools of Business,
Education and Nursing. The Dean provides visionary leadership and counsel to the Department Heads and
Director for the Small Business Development Center. The Dean ensures adherence to federal, state and
university regulations; maintains accreditation standards and establishes strategic partnerships.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and development of academic programs.
  • Recommend faculty appointments, promotion, tenure, sabbatical, and termination.
  • Supervise and evaluate department heads and director.
  • Participate in fiscal year budget planning in accordance with the strategic plan.
  • Participate in local, state, and national meetings as needed.
  • Serve on university committees when applicable.
  • Participate as a member of the extended President Advisory Committee and other duties as
    assigned by the Provost/Vice- President of Academic Affairs and the President.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable on external accreditors and regulatory agencies' standard and criteria required to
    maintain approval and accreditation reaffirmation.
  • Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to lead the faculty and staff in the daily activities of the
    School of Business, Education and Nursing.
  • Be able to envision growth and understand investment, both in the people managed, as well as the
    department and university.

Education and Experience

  • Terminal degree in one of the core disciplines housed in the College of Professional Studies with academic
    rank of professor.
  • Record of leadership experience within the core discipline noted or the university.
  • Evidence of successful teaching in higher education and excellent communication/human relation
    skills.
  • Experience in administration of programs in higher education to include strategic planning,
    budgeting, operations, and collaboration with colleagues.

Physical Requirements

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Extended hours may be required on occasion dependent on the work objectives and projects per the
    university.
