Database Report Writer Analyst

Position Summary

This position designs, tests, generates, and troubleshoots reports that support data needs at all levels of the university. The ideal candidate will gather data from multiple systems, analyze data, integrate data, validate data for accuracy and develop visual reports and dashboards to aid with process improvements and business decisions.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Designs, builds, tests, and generates reports utilizing information databases.
  • Reviews, revises, formats, and analyzes data to ensure information meets user needs.
  • Utilizes software to generate metrics and develops actionable recommendations.
  • Identifies, manages, and discovers process improvements as they relate to reporting delivery.
  • Collaborates with various stakeholders to identify needs for reporting.
  • Collaborates closely with technical support, database administrators, software developers, and other business groups.
  • Trains new and existing staff on how to develop and/or use queries, including the development of training materials.
  • Performs data entry and troubleshoots to identify and resolve data entry and information processing errors and problems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to gather report requirements from uses and write complex queries to meet end user and business unit needs.
  • Experience designing and implementing multidimensional and normalized data models.
  • Ability to establish ODBC connections between different types of databases and platforms.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate with people at all levels, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational skills.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills, willing to provide support after normal business hours, as needed.
  • Ability to properly manage time and workloads in an environment that consistently provides distractions and diversions without close supervision.

Education and Experience

  • Two years' experience writing complex database queries and generating reports is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, mathematics, statistics, or a related field is preferred.
