Associate Professor - Master of Higher Education Program

Position Summary:

The Master of Higher Education with an emphasis on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) is one of Lincoln University newest graduate degree programs. The MAHED Program is designed as a fully online program for students interested in the study of higher education, particularly from the HBCU perspective and who seek to enter mid to senior-level positions at colleges and universities and other higher education associated agencies after graduation.

The Associate Professor/Coordinator of the MAHED Program is a tenure-track position, with administrative responsibility for degree program expansion, marketing, student, and faculty recruitment, along with other administrative responsibilities. The person serving in this role will have the option to work remotely, or on campus.

This is a full-time tenure-track, associate professor position in the School of Education, with coordinator responsibilities of the Master of Arts in Higher Education: HBCU Emphasis.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative oversight for the program with major emphasis on program design, enhancing delivery format, marketing, recruiting, and overall program sustainability.
  • Teach two courses per semester, with responsibility for recruiting teaching and affiliate faculty and other subject experts.
  • Oversight and leadership of this program will also include, but is not limited to, updating curriculum to meet trends in higher education and HBCUs, redeveloping courses for online/remote delivery, scheduling class offerings, maintaining oversight of faculty to ensure quality and fidelity of the curriculum, and develop relationships with higher education institutions, agencies, and other stakeholders to engage students in potential employment opportunities and ongoing professional development.
  • Record and maintain necessary data for assessment and accreditation purposes.
  • Service to the University will include, but not limited to: serving on university, college, and departmental committees as appropriate and feasible.
  • Complete projects as assigned by Department Chair, Dean of Professional Studies, and/or Provost.
  • Commitment to scholarships, research, publications, and/or grant writing will be necessary for tenure-track positions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:

  • Knowledge of Higher Education laws, governance, structure, and culture in general, and HBCUs in particular. Experience with conducting research as it relates to higher education and evidence of scholarly endeavors or potential thereof with a focus on HBCUs.
  • Demonstration of current needs and issues facing a diverse range of college students.
  • Ability to work virtually and mentor students with a diverse range of experience.
  • Effective communication with students, partner colleges and universities, external stakeholders, and university personnel. Ability to create and deliver high quality online/remote courses that promote students' success.

Preferred: Ability to oversee graduate student research capstones. Networking capabilities to recruit top professionals in higher education to teach, present, and/or assist students matriculating in the program.

Education and Experience

Required: An earned Doctorate (Ph.D. or ED.) in Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, or College Student Personnel.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years in higher education leadership roles.
  • University teaching experience both at undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Experience with successful program development, implementation, and sustainability.

Preferred:

  • Experience with teaching at the graduate level and mentoring students.
  • Professional experience at one of the nation's HBCUs.
  • A national presence with higher education.
  • Experience with program assessment and accreditation at the state and/or national level.
  • An established research agenda.

Fiscal Responsibility: None

Extent of Public Contact: Will be required to build relationships with external stakeholders, partner schools, and professional organizations.

Physical Demands: Remote or classroom/office work.

Physical Requirements: Ability to work on computer and virtually attend meetings/classes.

Working Conditions and Environment: May include travel to conferences, partner universities, or events across the state and country. Necessary traveling, unusual work hours, unusual environmental conditions, etc.
