Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

Purpose:

The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the aspect of operation and team management including recruitment, training, coaching, fundraising, and retention of qualified student-athletes. These duties should be completed in a manner that is consistent with the Core Values of Lincoln University and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach also conducts daily responsibilities while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and institutional guidelines and policies.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Perform components of the sports program to include teaching sport specific fundamentals and strategies to student-athletes.
  • Operate within the guidelines of Lincoln University, GLVC and NCAA Rules and Regulations.
  • Assist the Head Coach with recruiting academically qualified student-athletes, student-athlete personal/professional development, academic advising, scouting reports, film review, and game preparation.
  • Operate within the guidelines of Lincoln University, GLVC and NCAA Rules and Regulations.
  • Support Head Coach with maintaining atmosphere of compliance, academic progress, student-athlete wellbeing, diversity, equity & inclusion, and championship culture.
  • Collaborate extensively with other departments on campus including, but not limited to Student Affairs, Provost, Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, Advancement, and Student Success.
  • Conduct internal/external engagement, i.e. phone, email, mailing, zoom with various constituent groups including, but not limited to faculty, staff, students, university personnel, donors, alumni, and fans.
  • Travel required as it relates to the position's responsibilities.
  • Other responsibilities/duties as assigned by the Head Women's Basketball Coach or VP of Athletics.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited four-year college or university required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated a minimum of 1 year of successful Division I coaching experience, Division II preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage people.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and success in teaching the skills and fundamentals of the sport.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • The ability to organize and motivate the student-athletes to maximum performance level in sports and academic achievement.
  • Proven experience in recruiting highly motivated and qualified student-athletes.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
    Experience in working with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the institution, GLVC and Division II athletics preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet university's insurance requirements for driving college vehicles required.
  • Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire, and will be required prior to participation in any countable athletically related
    activities as defined by the NCAA.
  • Position requires extensive internal face to face contact, telephone, email, mailing and other mediums of dialogue with university personnel. Significant interaction faculty, staff and students on a daily basis; Work extensively with
    other departments on campus.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or NCAA and GLVC regulations.

Certifications, Licenses, registrations

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, working on a computer, domestic traveling and standing on field.
  • The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. During game conditions, the noise level is often loud.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Normal 40+ hours work week (8 am - 5 pm during regular class sessions; 7:30 am - 6 pm during summer work hours).
