Assistant Professor of Political Science
Position Summary
The Assistant Professor of Political Science will teach sections of American National Government, State and Local Government, and other lower and upper-level courses contributing to the undergraduate degree and minor in political science and to the legal studies minor.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Classroom instruction
- Advising and mentoring students
- Maintaining weekly office hours
- Curriculum development
- Scholarly activities
- Management of local internships
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to teach courses in political science undergraduate degree and associated minors and research and training.
- Ability to teach freshman-level courses to a diverse student population.
- Skill in managing student internships, or comparable experience.
- Scholarly engagement through participation of scholarly professional associations, publications, or aptitude to do so.
- Proactive approach to developing new teaching approaches and learning opportunities.
Education and Experience
- Ph.D. or ABD (within one year) in political science or closely related field is required (law degrees are not acceptable).
- Higher education experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Light sedentary office work.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Normal physical mobility and endurance.
