Assistant Professor of Political Science

Position Summary

The Assistant Professor of Political Science will teach sections of American National Government, State and Local Government, and other lower and upper-level courses contributing to the undergraduate degree and minor in political science and to the legal studies minor.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Classroom instruction
• Advising and mentoring students
• Maintaining weekly office hours
• Curriculum development
• Scholarly activities
• Management of local internships

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to teach courses in political science undergraduate degree and associated minors and research and training.
• Ability to teach freshman-level courses to a diverse student population.
• Skill in managing student internships, or comparable experience.
• Scholarly engagement through participation of scholarly professional associations, publications, or aptitude to do so.
• Proactive approach to developing new teaching approaches and learning opportunities.

Education and Experience

• Ph.D. or ABD (within one year) in political science or closely related field is required (law degrees are not acceptable).
• Higher education experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Light sedentary office work.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Normal physical mobility and endurance.
