Assistant Professor of History

Position Description

Lincoln University is seeking a full-time 10-month faculty position in Middle or High School History and Social Studies Education. The Assistant Professor of History will be engaging, student-centered teacher who will teach courses ranging from U.S. and/or World History surveys to upper-division courses in teaching methodology.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Responsibilities of this position include scholarship, advising majors seeking certification, and overseeing student teacher placements.
• Teaching load is 4/4, with one course each semester centering on student teacher observations.
• Responsible for Missouri accreditation requirements and standards for graduating students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and experience in middle or high school history methods.
• Experience with adolescent learning theory.
• Skilled in working with underserved populations.
• Familiar with, or willingness to become an expert in the Missouri accreditation requirements and standards.

Education and Experience

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. is required - advanced ABD candidates are encouraged to apply.
• 3-5 years of teaching experience - with three years teaching experience at the middle or high school level.
• Valid teaching certificate in grades 6-12 in History or related Social Studies discipline.
