Assistant Professor of Food Science in Cooperative Research

Position Summary

Lincoln University of Missouri, Jefferson City, MO is seeking highly motivated, creative individuals to apply for an Assistant Professor in Food Science. The mission of this program is to enhance the quality of life for diverse, limited-resource citizens of Missouri and the nation as a whole through supportive food research and education. The position has the opportunity contributing to the programs in microbial safety of produce and meats, aquaculture, food and water quality, food processing/ packaging, pathogen detections, FSMA compliance and other food-safety relevant topics.

This is a 12-month, non-tenure track, full benefit-eligible faculty position with 100% research responsibilities.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Establish a high impact, nationally recognized research/extension program addressing the critical issues of food safety.
  • Conduct innovative research and outreach activities.
  • Develop grant proposals for obtaining extramural funding to support research and extension programs.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate with faculty within LU and from other institutions.
  • Contribute to relevant professional societies.
  • The incumbent may also be expected to teach courses relevant to his/her expertise, and to provide department-, college- and university-wide services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be familiar with FSMA and food safety standards.
  • Applicants shall demonstrate ability of conducting quality research and extension activities, publishing articles in impactful peer-reviewed journals, and receiving extramural funding through grant applications.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and willingness and ability to work in a team-oriented environment with a diverse group of faculty and students are essential.

Education and Experience

  • A Ph.D. degree in food science, food engineering, or a closely related field with a background in food safety is required.
