Assistant Professor of Animal Science/Nutritionist

Purpose: Lincoln University is seeking highly motivated, creative individuals to apply for the Assistant Professor position in Animal Science with the focus on small ruminant nutrition. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, full benefit-eligible faculty position with 75% research and 25% extension/outreach appointments.

Essential Job Functions, Duties, & Responsibilities:

  • Develop a high-impact, nationally recognized, animal nutrition-focused research program to address critical or emergent issues relevant to the small ruminant industry throughout Missouri and beyond.
  • Conduct innovative laboratory and field research as well as science-backed educational outreach that aligns with producers' needs.
  • Write grant proposals for extramural, competitive funding to support small ruminant nutrition research program.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to relevant professional societies.
  • Collaborate with faculty within the University and other institutions.
  • Work closely with University's research farms, extension educators, small ruminant producers, and industry partners.
  • May be required to teach courses relevant to their expertise, supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and provide departments, college, and university services as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean or Associate Research Director.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct quality research, publish research articles in peer-reviewed journals, and secure extramural funding through grant proposals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A collaborative mindset, valuing different perspectives and working effectively in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Animal Science with a focus on Animal Nutrition, Animal Physiology, or a closely related field.
  • Background in experimental design, data management, and statistical analysis is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in animal science (animal nutrition) is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience of postdoctoral research in animal nutrition/physiology.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Familiarity with critical and emergent issues facing small ruminant industry.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to drive vehicles and must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
