Assistant Professor of Animal Biotechnology
Purpose:
Lincoln University of Missouri in Jefferson City, Missouri is seeking a highly motivated, creative individual to apply for an Assistant Professor position in Animal Science with an emphasis of biotechnology. The incumbent will conduct research to increase Ag sustainability and profitability by optimizing animal growth, health, and production. This position could integrate basic animal research with molecular biology and genomics disciplines at the College of Agriculture, Environmental and Human Sciences. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track, full benefit-eligible, 100% research faculty position.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop a high impact, nationally recognized research program to address the critical issues of the livestock industry.
- Conduct innovative field and lab research and outreach activities focusing on animal genomics and molecular biology as it relates to animal production industry.
- Collaborate with colleagues on research to address critical issues in animal industries.
- Write grant proposals for extramural, competitive funding to support animal genomics and molecular biology application research.
- Publish scientific research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conference gatherings.
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate research.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in university, professional service, and outreach education activities.
- The option to teach genomics and molecular biology-related courses as needed.
- Any other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, MD/PhD) in animal science, veterinary, and bioscience, or closely related field.
- Postdoctoral experience in an animal production, nutrition, grazing, forage, and feed science.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
- Strong organizational, writing, and oral communication skills.
- Research work experience in animal production, animal genomics, molecular biology, biotechnology or related disciplines.
- Research grant writings, submissions, and reports.
- Scientific journal publications in relevant fields.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
N/A
Physical Demands:
- Field work under all weather conditions.
- Possible exposure to animal waste, allergens, and zoonotic agents.
- Work task such as lifting or carrying objects (40 lbs)
- Small livestock restraining and handling.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
