Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Purpose:
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach supports the Head Men's Basketball Coach in the administration of the Lincoln University men's basketball program. The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach is also responsible for assisting with the administration of basketball activities delegated by the Head Men's Basketball Coach. He also conducts daily responsibilities while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and institutional guidelines and policies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Oversees specific position group or area designated by the Head Men's Basketball coach.
- Coach at practice/games and work individually with student-athletes on skills development.
- Teach sport-specific fundamentals and strategies to student-athletes.
- Reinforce the priority of student-athlete graduation.
- Actively support the endeavors and advancements of Lincoln Athletics Department.
- Promote the academic and athletic well-being of student-athletes.
- Operate within the guidelines of Lincoln University, GLVC and NCAA Rules and Regulations.
- Develop and maintain quality relationships within the community both on and off campus.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Men's Basketball Coach or VP of Athletics.
- Travel may be required as it relates to the position's responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university required.
- Demonstrated a minimum of 1 year of successful Division I coach experience. Division II preferred.
- Proven ability to lead and manage people.
- Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability and success in teaching the skills and fundamentals of the sport.
- Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules and regulations.
- The ability to organize and motivate the student-athletes to maximum performance level in sports and academic achievement.
- Proven experience in recruiting highly motivated and qualified student-athletes.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Experience in working with a diverse population.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the institution, GLVC and Division II athletics preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or NCAA and GLVC regulations.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the group of media, administrators, faculty, staff, students, public groups, and/or Board of Curators.
- Ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines and telephone systems.
- Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet university's insurance requirements for driving college vehicles required.
- Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire and will be required prior to participation in nay countable athletically related activities as defined by the NCAA.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, working on a computer, domestic traveling, and standing on field.
- The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. During game conditions, the noise level is often loud.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
