Assistant Farm Manager

Position Summary

The Assistant Farm Manager assists with managing the farms, including the livestock with an intensive grazing system and keeps the records of animals and plant science plots, operates all farm equipment, and schedules farm events, including tours. The Asst. Farm Manager manages student and causal employees on the day-to-day operations.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Assists with managing Geroge Washington Carver and James N. Freeman Farms.
• Manages cattle and small ruminants.
• Coordinates with Personal Investigators to facilitate research.
• Supervises student workers.
• Purchases supplies and materials for the farm.
• Coordinates and keeps animal and plot records.
• Operates and maintains all farm equipment.
• Schedules farm events and tours.
• Performs lawn maintenance.
• Assists Professors with lab classes at the farm.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• General knowledge of day-to-day farm operations (animal, plants, soils, forestry, etc.).
• Knowledge of cattle and small ruminant animal welfare.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must be able to multitask.
• Must be able to operate all farm equipment (tractor, skid steer, haying equipment, lawn equipment).

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or related field is required.
• Two years' experience working with animals or farm operations is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of working outside in all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to bend and squat.
• Light office work, heavy outside work.
