Assistant Director of Student Engagement
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Engagement provides leadership and direction for the Department of Student Engagement, serves as an advisor to the Campus Activities Board, and serves as a member of the Student Engagement team to advance co-curricular initiatives focused on belonging and positive social change.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Advises large-scale student coordinating and governing bodies. Supports student leaders in negotiating with administrators, staff, faculty, and students.
- Supports the development of university-wide programming and leadership curriculum.
- Oversees budget for the entire department and manages appropriate expenditures in accordance with University and Campus Life policies.
- Coordinates and oversees the University's Week of Welcome, Homecoming, and Springfest.
- Initiates and develops key collaborative relationship across the Division of Student Affairs, and within the University and Jefferson City communities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Student Development and Social Identity Theory, and how it impacts students.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, students, and community members.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and talks, organize, and delegate tasks to staff and members as needed.
- Ability to coordinate programs and processes, and to synthesize them into successful student and departmental services where student learning occurs.
- Ability to analyze information, problem solve, and sue sound judgement in decision making.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Two years of work experience in student advising, event management work, HBCU student leaders, and student governance is required.
- Master's degree in Student Personnel or related field is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Light sedentary office work.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to life up to 25 lbs.
