Assistant Director of Counseling Services

Purpose:

Provide direct mental health counseling services to individual students, couples, and groups regarding a wide range of personal concerns related to their goals, needs, values, attitudes, conflicts, interpersonal relationships, educational or career choices, academic or work functions, education, and treatment/referral for alcohol and drug-related issues, and developmental and emotional problems and crises. These services require intake assessment, case management, and crisis intervention, and may require on-call and after-hours consultation as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide mental health counseling services to students for individual and groups.
  • Provide crisis intervention management for students experiencing mental health crises.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate effective educational programs and outreach activities that promote student health and wellbeing and the prevention, recognition, and treatment of psychological and behavior problems.
  • Extensive background in working with substance use and dual diagnosis.
  • Participate in Partners in Prevention activities and other grant funded opportunities.
  • Coordinating care with mental health providers external to Lincoln University.
  • Engage in professional development activities on an on-going basis.
  • Assist with testing and accommodations request and send letters of accommodation to students and faculty within Access and Abilities.
  • Trains, evaluates, and supervises staff; provides consultation to all staff as necessary.
  • Provides individual, couples, and group counseling.
  • Manage, develop, and implement psycho-educational programming and campus outreach efforts.
  • Provides crisis intervention and consultation to faculty, staff, and staff.
  • Develop and implement outcomes assessment.
  • Participation in various Lincoln University events.
  • Supervise counseling center staff, to include 3rd party vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve on university wide committees.
  • Supervisor of the EHR/EMR.
  • Supervisor of the tele-health/telehealth portal.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in counseling, counseling psychology, or psychology. Required.
  • At least one (1) year work experience, full-time and/or approved internship, conducting clinical interviews, making diagnostic assessments, and formulating treatment or referral plans for individuals with a broad spectrum of psychological problems. Required.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a mental health provider in the state of Missouri. Required.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in on-call and after-hours work schedules.

  1. Knowledge and abilities to function as a skilled licensed professional mental health counselor is required.
  2. Trauma Informed.
  3. Excellent customer service skills.
  4. Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Attentive to details and listens well.
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.
  7. Ability to analyze data and solve problems.
  8. Self-starting and able to work consistently without direct supervision.
