Assistant Dean of Students

Position Summary

Responsible for a broad scope of duties requiring knowledge of current trends and best practices within student affairs. Assists the division with planning, assessment, and supporting enrollment and retention by providing students with well-balanced curricular experience. As a member of the Student Affairs leadership team this position contributes, supports, and promotes events, activities, and experiences that enhance the student life experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the investigation of and monitors cases of alleged violations of the student code of conduct and handbook and other related policies and procedures. Serves as a system administrator of the Maxient Case Management system.
  • Establishes a visible and viable campus presence as a member of the LU CARE Team.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for the student conduct hearing panel, making recommendations for the panel membership, and coordinating its training.
  • Provides leadership and support for grant funded DEI and violence prevention initiatives.
  • Collaborates to develop and facilitate assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of areas under the leadership of the Assistant Dean of Students. Serves on local committees and taskforces that pertain to student engagement in the community.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of social justice, restorative justice, and conflict resolution theories.
  • Knowledge of federal and state grant management and reporting.
  • Knowledge of legal matters in student affairs and student development theory.
  • Ability to analyze data, problem solve, forecast, and plan effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree required in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in higher education and student affairs.

Physical Requirements

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
