Assistant Dean of Student Engagement

Purpose:

The Assistant Dean of Student Engagement is tasked with leading and developing student engagement at the University. This role involves creating, overseeing, and assessing innovative educational co-curricular programs, initiatives, and activities designed to foster inclusion and student success.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Hire, onboard, train, evaluate, and supervise departmental staff, including support for student employees.
  • Develop and implement program procedures aligned with the University's mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure that programming adopts a student learning approach, exposing students to the University's and division's competencies, and fostering growth in social and cultural awareness, leadership skills, civic engagement, personal development, and service to the University and community.
  • Develop and coordinate student activity programming to promote student engagement, and coordinate Lincoln University's traditional events with campus constituencies.
  • Maintain and manage the Student-Life programming calendar for various print publications and ensure its input on the University website and social media.
  • Plan and facilitate Student Leadership Programs and Training.
  • Create learning outcomes and assessments for programs as needed and assess student learning in specific co-curricular areas in accordance with Higher Learning Commission accreditation standards.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget.
  • Establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with student leaders, club advisors, faculty, and staff across the University.
  • Oversee departmental sound and video equipment and programming supplies.
  • Provide oversight and leadership for all student clubs and organizations.
  • Serve as a resource for campus constituencies (residence life, health and wellness, career services, student clubs, and organizations, enrollment services, and academic programs) in developing, planning, and implementing activities.
  • Adhere to university, state, and federal policies and procedures, as well as professional and ethical standards in carrying out these activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree in student personnel, student development, or related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience is required, 5-7 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience and ability to manage budgets.
  • Experience in student activities, college union, or related areas is preferred.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Proven competence in leadership and supervision of students and staff.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Suite and proficient in using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, develop communication strategies and work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to perform duties with high accuracy.
  • A high degree of organization, ability to engage in various tasks simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential University information.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend activities.

Physical Demands:

  • Light sedentary office work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
