Assistant Dean of Student Engagement

Position Summary

The Assistant Dean of Student Engagement is responsible for providing leadership and development for student engagement and global education functions at the University, in addition to developing, directing, and evaluating educationally purposeful co-curricular programs and activities intended to promote inclusion and success for students.

Essential Job Functions

  • Hire, onboard, train, evaluate, and supervise departmental staff, including student-employee support.
  • Develop and implement program procedures that are consistent with University's mission, vision, and values.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the development and execution for all aspects of global education.
  • Ensure a student learning approach to programming that exposes students to the universities' and divisions' competencies and fosters growth in social and cultural awareness, leadership skills, civic engagement, personal development, and service to the University and the community.
  • Develop learning outcomes and assessments for programs as appropriate. Assess student learning in defined co-curricular areas per the Higher Learning Commissions' accreditation standards.
  • Develop and oversee the departmental budget.
  • Establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with student leaders, club advisors, faculty, and staff across the University.
  • Develop and coordinate student activity programming that promotes student engagement, and coordinate Lincoln University's traditional events with campus constituencies.
  • Maintain and manage the Student-Life programming calendar for various print publications and input in the University website and social media.
  • Plan and facilitate the Student Leadership Programs and Training.
  • Provide oversight of departmental sound and video equipment and programming supplies.
  • Provide oversight and leadership for all student clubs and organizations.
  • Serve as a resource for campus constituencies (residence life, health and wellness, career services, student clubs and organizations, enrollment services, and academic programs) in developing, planning, and implementing activities programming.
  • Adhere to university, state, and federal policies and procedures as well as professional, ethical standards in carrying out these activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Suite and proficient in using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, develop communication strategies and work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must understand the many facets of marketing at a dynamic university.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to perform duties with high accuracy.
  • A high degree of organization, ability to engage in various tasks simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential University information.
  • Be team-oriented.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend activities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree is required, Master's degree in student personnel, student development, or related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience is required, 5-7 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience in student activities, college union, or related area is preferred.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Proven competence in leadership and supervision of students and staff.
  • Experience and ability to manage budgets.
