Assistant Dean of Housing and Residence Life

Position Summary

The Assistant Dean of Housing and Residence Life is responsible for enriching students' lives and contributing to a vibrant, collaborative, and diverse campus community.

Housing and Residence Life works to support the overall well-being of students, develops and supports inclusive communities, fosters a sense of belonging, and supports the academic initiatives of the University and rich opportunities for personal, cultural, social, and intellectual development.

Essential Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement policy, program planning, and community building.
  • Creates personal growth experiences by facilitating student development opportunities and developing a sense of community for the residential program.
  • Secondary responsibilities include administrative functions, room assignments, and facilities management.
  • Ensure staff are provided with necessary orientation and training.
  • Advocate for staff by helping to navigate issues.
  • Manage facilities by assisting staff in developing knowledge of facility upkeep, reports, and tracking intentional damages.
  • Participate in crisis management and emergency response training and exercises.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with campus partner offices to strategize and create student life programs and initiatives.
  • Actively engages in administrating and overseeing a portfolio or 6-8 residence halls.
  • Participate in setting and executing residence hall strategic planning, priorities, and resource allocation.
  • Works with Compliance Officer to assess the quality of the residential programs, student experience, and management of residence hall policies and procedures.
  • Provides consultation, development, and support to the Housing and Residence Life staff.
  • Oversee budgetary reconciliation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Suite and proficient in using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, develop communications strategies, and work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the many facets of marketing at a dynamic university.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to perform duties with high accuracy.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential University information.
  • Team-oriented.
  • Knowledge of risk management and crisis response related to student housing.
  • Ability to effectively interact with students, parents, colleagues, staff and faculty.
  • Must exhibit exceptional judgment, including under pressure.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree is required.
  • Minim of 3-5 years of experience with evidence of increasing levels of responsibilities is required.
  • Supervisor experience is required.
